If you are looking for a trike engine, this is the one (the same as mine) as it has two distinct advantages over standard beetle engines. 1. It does not have the huge tinware tower containing the fan on top and thus you can have a very low backend. 2. The fan is bolted directly to the end of the crankshaft, therefore if the fan belt breaks the engine does not overheat (or catch fire, which is a popular option). :) :) :)

I notice it has a dynamo fitted, as mine did when I got it. You can grind out the fan casing (careful as it can catch fire) and fit an alternator.

i have the 1700 version of this engine sitting in the back of my trike (came out of a squareback).

i'm certain they are quite a bit heavier than the beetle engine, also they aren't cast in a mixture of magnesium alloy so won't catch fire and burn out in quite the spectacular fashion the beetle cases will (or at least i don't believe mine is) ...

also mine came with alternator fitted hanging under one side as opposed to mounted above

Mine has a magnesium casings for the fan which I ground out to take the place of the dynamo. They are heavy but it does save building the back up so high.
