opinions please on bike intercoms
I thinking of investing in an intercom (rider - pillion) for the bike (a Sprint ST) . but primarlily use it for rider only, for listening to a few tunes on long runs, and mebbe Satnav while touring through Europe next year.
I`ve looked at a few inc, Starcom (www.starcom1.com)
and was wondering what folks had tried and tested, and are there any other makes or ideas I should consider

There is no fucking way i would have an intercom...................the bitch nags enough as it is......... :D
nah me neither. I think they are a bit dangerous actually. Very distracting. Had a mate once who was singing away to some tunes he had running thru his, mind not on the road and hit a car that had stoped at a jundtion. Silly twat went straight up the cars arse! He never used one after that.
Have never worn one, and dont think I ever will............
But as far as sat nav goes, I guess they could be useful..........

My argument;
If you have an intercom what is there to talk about when you stop?

I use the Autocom system on my work bike. http://www.autocom.co.uk/ It's expensive but it's probably the best system around. I have bluetooth connection for the phone and leads to connect GPS and MP3or radio etc. Very good kit and if it's set up correctly audible at motorway speeds.

I have an Autocom too. I don't use it for chit-chat though. Usually just for directions, especially when travelling with a large group, when the leader and tail-end charlie stay in contact via radio - very useful if someone breaks down or pulls over for whatever reason.
I can connect my phone to it, but rarely do so. I do use my MP3 player though. The Autocom automatically turns the music volume down whilst you're using the PMR radios. It's got a voice-activated microphone too, which is great when you're riding cos you don't need to mess about pushing buttons. However, when some cnut nearly wiped me out on the M6 on boxing day, I reckon everyone with a radio in a 2 mile radius of me will have heard me swearing at the myopic git.
don't have a prob with intercoms I had a right old pikey one off ebay £13 which was constant open channels . it was fine. The only prob was that my pillion felt the need to talk all the time instead of just enjoying the ride. :D
it's no different than riding with music,....which I do anyway

That sounds very Harley Owners Group and very sanitised, dont like the sound of that at all.
Certainly not very Ghengis Kahn and his rampaging mongol warrior hordes.

Nope, actually it's IAM. Our insurance doesn't cover us if someone has a smash because they were too busy concentrating on a conversation rather than riding.
As for the bit about when people pull over, when I was on the way to the CWBB this year, I was overtaken by a large group of bikers. Ten mins later, they were all pulling over onto the hard shoulder, just cos one of them had stopped for a piss. They arrived at the site half an hour after me. If they'd had radios, they could have said "carry on and I'll catch you up", instead of 30 bikers all standing on the hard shoulder wondering what was wrong.

i wouldnt use one.one of the best things i like about riding bikes is being isolated,no phones,no customers..............perfect!
Well that bunch sounded like they did need it Womble.
Sounds like they dont ride together much either.
Or the guy who stopped for a slash could of just waved the others on and caught up.

navigation is what I really want to use 1 for, as the nav I got has the setup for notifying me of speed trap sites for all the scameras. Having music and chat are secondary as I mainly ride solo anyhow.
but I may have problem with siteing any base unit under the seat as theres very little space due to the underseat exhaust on the new sprint ST
however it is the opinions on the different makes that is what I`m after
