Been thinking of using a BMW Brick in my next trike but have been told its a pain in the arse because the shaft drive is on the wrong side and turns the wrong way. Now on my GTR1000 the axle had to be turn upside down to allow for the difference in direction so I'm guessing that if I used a reliant axle it would be fine the right way up.

What are the problems I might face using a Brick then ?

Probably not use a reliant though but will look for something with disk brakes

Hi Borg...

My trike has a K100 engine and gearbox and a Reliant axle.
The axle fits the right way up and uses BMW 3 Series 14" wheels. It was built by Boss Hog - I think they've actually built three or four K100 trikes over time.

There are some pics here; http://uk.photos.yahoo.com/apachedrifter the album is entitled Apache.

wicked nice one thanks, so was it a problem with the shaft drive or anything ? and how is the gearing using the 14" wheels ?

Not sure about the building as I bought it as is, however, the BMW shaft and the Reliant shaft have just been mated together. The angle from the universal joint on the BMW gearbox which is at the top right is not too severe and the axle hasn't been shortened or anything like that.

The wheels fit straight on with no adapters etc., and the gearing is fine. (Front end is standard K100 forks & wheel) It accellerates like **** off a shovel, and pulls like a train even at low revs in any gear.

BMW parts etc. are cheaper than Jap stuff and easier to get at either Motobins or Motorworks (New & used usually in stock)

For what it's worth: The next project trike in 'Trike Tek' will be a K100 but we ain't started on it yet so you may not want to wait that long.
It'll probably make the make about feb/march next year.
