should a trike have 2 wheels up front or t'other way round as convention dictates. Setting up the hanling for a trike with both wheels at the sharp end must be a nightmare

Or see the issue of Biker that comes out in August ... ;)

Though having two wheels up front and set up rite is an engineering feat. having the two wheels at the back with a good bike front end on it,irrelevant ov it been a big bucks chop or shed built reliant, It is that which makes the trike look what it is.

The v'max looks good and i like it myself but if it's that or a wellbuilt standard trike in chop format. the latter wins hands down!

Trike round back loses quite a bit of power and if you forget you have wheels there!! Trike round front doesn't lose as much power and you can see how wide you are and don't try and filter through Traffic :D

Saying that I may be building a conventional Trike this time round!!

Cheers

Shaggy, it's a guy in your neck of the woods from south wales, his name is Clive, big guy who's an ex Hells Angel! so Trikey shouldn't frighten him then!!  He loved the Trike and is going to send pics when he has got it all done up with new paint and powder coat, he's looking to put a couple of grand into it he said.

I did some more adjustments when I got back from Baskers and the Trike was a lot more manageable with a lot less bump steer :D

Cheers

i think you should be novel and use a triangular idea with a wheel above the riders hear

Look forward to seeing it in its finished guise, it was a pity you couldn't afford to A, hang on to it, and B, finnish it in the way it deserved. Yea Steve1200 put it the best, "Bump Steer" is a very good way of describing its peculirarity, I do Hope he brings it to Baskerville next year. ;)

For me it has to be one up front, beter view :)

As I am a big fan of the VW style and noise its the only rea option, as a kid fell in love with style and took some time to get my hands on one, but now one year and 6K miles later you could not get a trike of me for all the money in the bank

A trike by definition has three wheels, whatever the pattern. All a matter of personal choice and pushing the bouderies. Two wheels forward is not a new idea Morgan and Fords did it in the 20's and many other manufacturers and kit car makers do it as well. The little kits based on a 2CV look authentically old...

My trike has got two wheels at the front and a two litre engine....

But then because I was unsure that the two wheels at the front were such a good idea it has two wheels at the back....

Some people call it a Mondeo estate....

Sorry... :D John

Hi there - I havent yet finished, but I broke my back 17 years ago and since then I've been (on and off!) designing a trike for me. All the research I've done suggests two wheels (+ a transverse engine and box[I hope to use a rover 827i auto]) at the front will be best for acceleration, steering and braking. What else is there? Anybody disagree?
Thanks in advance for any advice

The Rover engine is a weak motor, the heads tend to warp, causing major problems, so if you do go this route, make sure your cooling system is larger not smaller capacity than the original.

Umm.....

It's going to be HUGE?

Another suggestion would be use a Alfa 164 2.5 or 3 litre V6 motor and transmission, pretty reliable engine, cheaper to fix, so cheap to buy they're nearly free?

Also available in automatic.

The other thing is....

Do you want a bike with an extra wheel, or a car with one missing?
