Have a Honda X-4 (CB1300) occasionally gear lever feels stiffer than normal and either changes gear doesnt change gear or goes into neutral then jumps into gear. Also not always the same gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Basic question is when?
Is it always at the same time, when engine hot, cold, after a long run etc.
Any other info.

Since it is not a fault the comes up all the time is it possible that the linkages are worn or some splines missing?
Other then that i would look to some missing teeth in the box itself but would explore every other possibilty first before looking at the gear box.
Whats the mileage,do you know its service history?

Not sure if this will apply here but I've got a GSX1400 and they can suffer from difficult gear changes which is often down to the clutch. What happens is the hydraulic clutch mechanism gets air in it and needs bleeding, if your bike has a similar set-up you might want to check that first.

Everything external appears ok. its done 41000kms, i can only vouch for last 4 years service history as its an import, has regular oil changes, also never thrashed.
