are they a press fit?? seem to remember that they are??

got the stem in one set of yokes that I need in the other one :(

so off to find an engineering company tomoro, bit concerned about the yokes safety, but hey ho LOL

HMM now Im worried, cant see any welding

what about cutting it down to the required length, slugging and welding it back together???

the top half of it is spot on, ie threads and sizes etc, but its just about 2" too long

A hell of a lot of them are press fit. You need a good press to get them out, I have one you can use.

If you are going to cut the stem, do make sure you turn up a slug that has to be pressed in, then weld it in place and bolt it from below the yolk. Belt and braces, but with something that vital I would do everything possible to make sure it ain't going to come apart.

If you are stuck, get in touch as I have all the gear and materials to sort it out. My number is 07745 393822 and I am not far from you.

cheers mate, yeah I got all 3 sizes of flypress and a small 15t hydraulic press, turned up a couple of slugs to aid with pressing the stem out but getting nowhere fast with it

the more I think about cutting and slugging the stem the more Im drawn towards that route, is a hollow stem anyway, and with good tight fitting slug and then well welded etc I dont see it being a problem

will see how my next visit to the press goes, a soak in diesle and then gonna heat it as much as possible, alloy should expand fatser than the steel and hopefully make life a little easier :(

Quite a few of the press fit ones have a roll pin that retains the stem too.

Roughly speaking, if it's an ally bottom yoke it's going to be a press fit stem, but there's probably a retaining pin somewhere. No pin usually means there's a circlip on the stem up inside the yoke.

Steel bottom yokes tend to have welded in stems.

The sweeping generalisation of the day, that, but it's definitely quite hard to weld a steel stem into an ally lower yoke. :D
