call me a bit insane but i want to build a chain driven trike. shaft engines in my area are getting thin on ground and damn expensive and am building on a budget. got just about all areas covered in my head on what i want to do but im struggling on back axle design. i was gonna use pillow block bearings on swing arm to mount the round bar (i want to keep it a soft tail) but i cant get my head round how to mount the hubs on the end without them possibly falling off at speed (DOESNT SOUND APPEALING) any ideas or good links for me....also any ideas on bar diameter to use for axle cheers guys

Apologies if I'm reading this wrong but are you proposing to have a solid axle with no diff? I've never known anyone ride a trike like this but my old neighbour had a drag car with a locked diff and that was a real bugger to get round corners with both back wheels turning at the same speed.
On a more positive note I'm sure I remember seeing somewhere that you can get a chain drive conversion for reliant back axles.

Slightly more sensible approcach might using a Yamaha middle box off an XS750/850 and then just using a an axle or a diff out of a car.

You really do want a diff in there and not a solid axle.
