First off apologies that this is a car question and not a bike one but I don't go on any other forums where I would trust the answer to this.
My mate has an early 80's SWB canvas-topped Land Rover which I'm helping him restore. At the moment we don't have any doors, roof or windows in it but we need to get it mot'd to renew the tax as it's kept outside his house and that counts as part of the road. Does anyone know if we can get it mot'd like this and if we can what do we legally need as regards rear-view mirrors?

Dave.

Don't know if this'll help, but we ran Rovers in NI with no doors, just a windscreen.Okay they were military vehicles, but they had to comply with traffic laws.As I remember we just had a rear-view mirror on the windscreen pillar. Also,on the show "Al Murray's Road to Berlin" he was tooling around in a Willys Jeep with the windscreen folded down.
Somebody's bound to know for sure.

You need a minimum of a centre OR an O/S rear view mirror.

as for the rest of it...I think the rule is..If it is fitted it has to be right..if it's not fitted it can't be tested..Take it for an MOT...so you might lose 30 odd quid..but it may pass and if it doesn't you will have a list of what you need to get and a free repeat mot if you do it quick enough...and evidence that you are trying to comply with the law...in case of a tug...John

There are a couple of MOT testers on there as well as loads of helpful people if you come across any other problems with your restoration, and yes, I also have a Landy! :D

i mot about 4 bikes a week.
but as far as cars are concerned. i believe you need 2 rear mirrors. one of which must be on the off side. the other can be windscreen or near side. the rules may differ for an older vehicle though

If I remember correctly you DO need doors although you only need the bottom half..

Mirrors are definately needed
