Just wondering,
does a bike have to have an ignition key/switch to pass an MoT? If you only use the kill switch to turn the bike off, would that be OK?

Mate of mine with a S&S custom uses a remote starter only with no problems MOT wise.

that's OK then... hi-lo switch is on the bars, but the headlight switch itself is under the seat opposite the old ignition switch.

had an XR600 on a daytime* MOT for a couple of years :D

It was kickstart only, (no key)

*not that it should matter

Hi there buddy.

Just something at the back of my mind screams the kill switch is bad for constant use.

Perhaps it produces a strain on cdi os p'haps it was points it messed with.

Worth asking about that side of things.Cuz cdi ain't cheap and it is an arse ache.

Could get a very tiny ign switch and run it via a relay so it could be miniscule-just a thought

cheers

Just using a kill-switch doesn't turn off all the electrical components, it just turns off the CDI. All the other components stay live and so can get hot/burn out. This I know 'cos my bike is awaiting a new regi-rec for just this reason. :(

You tell my local MOT man that

no need to tell him, just ask him to show you where in the manual it states it must be on the bars, it must be secure safe and operative, the only switch that stipulates it must be easy to reach/operate is the horn button

i had this problem with hi/low stwitch. i have hi/low under seat. after much arguing about on/off switch. i pointed out that thay had bikes in the shop that didint even have on/off switch's. then it was "well you should have a switch on the bars for hi/low. so i asked him to show me this in the mot book. it just had teck stuff like if its fitted it should work and ages etc. nothing about where it should be. some of the factory customs in the shop had switch on the tank but had pass light on bars. they then tried to fail me on lack of indicators, but my bike was to old to need them.
