hi any body have a clue on the size of jets i need to fit to run with k&n cone type filters. i hate the things but i cant get a standard air box on the mrs trike its a suzuki vx 800 the standard size are rear cylinder runs a 132.5 and the front runs a 120. i have had a look on some sites but they say go up by 10 but it dont work at min i have 150 main jets with the needles on the bottom notch to raise the needle and the air screws 8 turns out.up to yet this is the best but its far from right as if back fires and pops and farts at low revs but after 4 grand its not to bad.any body have a clue on the size or know of a place that would set it up right as it needs to do a lot of rally miles.thanks

Used to have a z1000J and sent them a set of carbs off a gsx.
Told them the pipe and filters they sorted the jetting and they worked a treat.
v and m they were called can't find them on google though.
These guys seem local to you though-seem pretty up on carbs.Worth a try?

I was always told to start at 10% bigger than stock and work from there.

if its not bad over 4 grand, it wont be your mains, its more than likely to be the pilot/idle jets and mixture screws, i think dynojet do kits, have a look on their website, it might just tell you the jets you need ;)

Find a local dyno - for £20 you can find out just where and therefore what the problem is and go from there. Much better than spending a ton and the bike still not running right.

most bike dyno's won't work on the trike since it won't fit their kit and car places won't touch it coz its a bike.so the plan is have the exhaust re made to give me enough room to get a standard air box on.i found a local exhaust place that will make up the front pipes to run them under the engine and up through the swing arm so if all works out i will put it back to bog standard.thanks for all help

I know it isn't what you've got but thought some of the info might cross over.Esp the single carb conversion.
Even muppits like me can set up an SU carb :)
Remaking the exhaust made me cring-all that beer money-OUCH.

If its ok after four grand then its possibly a mixture of the needle height and the mixture settings, drop the needles one notch and turn all the mixture screws in until they stop, do not overtighen stop when they pinch, then turn them out 1 and 1/2 turns start from there, you will have to adjust the tickover as well to match.
As a rough guide to how the throttle works
1. up to 1/4 open is controlled by the mixture screws and slide cutaway
2. up to 1/2 - 3/4 slide cutaway and needle position
3. up to fully open sldie cutaway and main jet.
The amount varies from carb to carb and as I say this is just to give you a rough guide.

got the exhaust remade out of stainless cost £120 not a bad job for a car shop.but could be a bit better but it will let me put the standard air box on the rear carb and it makes it a lot safer':) the old one ran very close to both of you legs i could see it burning through your leg at some point .got the air box's of ebay for £10 so its looking like i got it sorted out just got to waite for the post man now to bring the air box then the mrs will be happy so she can get out on it :D
