not to important but needed to ask.
put some straight through pipes on the gsxr1100. problem is when i realy open her up the clutch slips. put the normal 4-1 open pipe on and she runs fine. now im figuring the clutch needs sorting any way. but can putting the open pipes make such a difference in this area. clutch only lets go high up the range (no rev counter) in 4th and 5th.
cheers

Would only think it could be down to the exhaust if the straight through pipe lets it rev higher than the normal one or if it gives a sufficiently high power increase to overpower the clutch.

what model gsxr1100? some of the later gixxer 1100's have a diaphragm clutch and that cant take much more power than stock. however just open pipes arent likely to do it. sounds like your clutch was on its last legs anyway, and the pipes have just pushed it over the edge.
if its the diaphragm clutch model, you can convert it to the normal clutch setup by mixing and matching clutch pars from certain other gixxers. for more info on all theings gs/gsx/gsxr try www.oldskoolsuzuki.info

its the 1052 slabby. slightly tuned (well it was a couple of years ago).
i havnt got a rev counter but i know when the cluch lets go its got loads of revs left.
it also only does it 4th and 5th
any way. ive put the old 4-1 back on. more or less a straight through. opened her up and no problems. to be honest i think the engine could do with a new cam chain and im gonna put new clutch plates in now any way.
cheers :)

a cluch starts slipping in the higher gears first because it has a higher loading on it than when in 1st or 2nd.
drag pipes get they name from drag racing. by design they produce power at high revs, just where a drag bike wants it. put that combination together with a tired clutch and there you have it. :( :(
