Help.
I am wanting to build myself something lowriderish black, evil looking and loud.
What would make a good starting bike for this kind of thing, whats involved, what are the pitfalls I need to watch for? Is it even worth it, or should I just buy something already done? I have an old GS500E which is pretty dull and could benifit from some mods, would this be a good start point?
I am OK with welding/fabricating but not done anything like this with bikes before.
any suggestions welcomed.

That's not really something anyone can advise you on...first thing you need to find is an engine that has the sound you want...then you need the money...don't get a GT750...you can't hear them from two feet away... :D John

Cheers John, I was thinking a twin, either straight or V, not fussed which.
I am starting to think that the GS500 would be a good start mainly due to the suspension set up on the rear. I would need to buy another as the one I have is used daily for work. I am thinking cut off the frame rear of the tank and attach a fender to the swingarm, some sort of bracketry for a single seat behind the tank, forward controls and nice flat bars, should make a comfortouble riding position.
I will take the GS on the next ride out to see how the little 500 keeps up, if there is enough oomph that is the way I will go. I think it would sound pretty thumpy with the right pipes on it as well. Maybe add a couple of degrees to the rake on the front as well.
Could be fun.

For a winter hack is it worth it.
I just used to keep mine legal and safe.
But as to the GS,lets face it you don't need mega power of wet cold roads do you.

GS500e frame doesnt lend itself too well to mods. Earlier Suzuki / kwak frames are easier to work with.
Just so happens I've got a GS1000 slightly modded frame with ZXR750 rear end already fitted. Also a GS1000 motor if required. Would actually be a much better starting point. (And no, it's not just a sales plug ;) )
