Ok, so Me build is definately going ahead. I know what I want, and I got a rough idea of how I am going to achieve it.

I need advice on the legal aspects,

If I modify an existing bike instead of pure build, can I use the origional papers/reg no?

Is there a limit to noise? I want it to be LOUD, preferable straight through tubes, but will I come unstuck with the plod?

Would I need to get an SVA test after extensive mods? (will be hardtail and probably have more rake on the front than usual.

What are requirements regarding indicaters and such? Are they legal requirement?

I'd like to know some of that stuff too.
Like do I have to get a SVA if I modify the bike
how do I stand on running straight through pipes

any modification to the original cradle counts as 'radically modified' and needs an msva test. you can only legally lower the seat rails....
i think the msva noise level is 99db, mot is at the testers descretion.

Cheers rob.

Is the 99dB at any particular distance from the bike?

I was planning to completely remove the rear frame that holds seat, plastics, lights, etc. I gues this will need an Msva test. I will not be altering the engine cradle or backbone under the tank, but will be looking to add some rake to the front end.

Anyone know the cost of MSVA test?

well i was told if use so much of the original frame i could use the log book and keep the reg. thats why my bike is actualy a 79 GP 100. last bike was an AR80 chop with Z1000j engine. bike before that was a fork lift truck. didnt say that on log book though. police told me when they pulled me for having 5inch spikes bolting my tank down. they said it would ruin any chances of me being a dad.

the only probs ive encountered with my current chop is with mots. i was told the light switches had to be on the bars. but after going through the book with them it turns out they were wrong. speedo isnt needed for mot. but is needed on the road. had a problem with rear reflector for mot. i bought a sticky one for 50p. stuck it on number plate.
thats about it realy. sorry its not much help

OK,

After speaking to several folks, I had decided against the hardtail idea.
