I know it's a car not a bike problem, but figured someone might have a clue on here.
Got a Peugot 306 diesel, bout 10 years old, and recently when i turn the heater on it stinks, the same sort of stink that you get when car overheats, but it don't seem to be overheating. Temp guage ain't going over about 80 degrees, which is where it normally sits. I'm thinking there could just be a slight leak in one of the hoses that goes thru the heater, but not too sure.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Your heater matrix is leaking or if you're real lucky it's just a pipe
The sweet smell is anti freeze, same as you get on an overheating engine because it's what creates the steam.

Freaks right, check your water level, you can smell the Antifreeze, does your windscreen steam up, or are your carpets wet in the front footwell area ?

You don't need much of a leak to make it smell
It's most likely just a weap that as the matrix heats up evaporates quicker and causes the whiff

Windscreen steams up, don't think mats are getting wet (yet anyway!)
So wot to do about it, will some of that rad seal type stuff do it do you think, or will that only make things worse?

deffo the heater matrix, i had the same type of car with the same problem, i used a bottle of rad weld, it did the job, the heater matrix on the pug 306 is an absolute bugger of a job, and if its got aircon its an even worse job to replace !
the whole dash has to come out to change it

Buy a couple of clothes pegs or sell the car

holts rad weld, or barrs stop leak will do the job, it lasted a year on mine before the car got totaled by a paki taxi driver, so dont know how long it would of lasted for

tis indeed the glycol
DO NOT IGNORE IT
mine was going and then split, filled the car with steam, I just drove the very last mile to get the car home safe as the boot was loaded with tools and work gear
ened up in hospital with blood poisoning, touch and go life situation was real ill
do not ignore this, if you cant afford to, or dont want to bother changing it, then just remove the hoses under the bonnet and link together to bypass the matrix
