Well, I have just stripped the bike ready for painting the engine. I am looking for advice on the best paints & methods.
I have tried VHT Black before but the results were not very good. I want a nice glossy finish not a dull one.

BBQ paint is pretty good for engines... lasts well, and is certainly heatproof!! :D

In the past ive used aluminium etch primer, its a great primer as it actually etches itself (burns if you like) oto the engine caseing therefore giving you a base coat which is guarenteed not to flake off like other paints, its expensive mind, but well worth it.

Halfords -
Plastikote
Black Metallic Motorcycle Paint, 2 coats - each drys in 20 minutes
followed by
Plastikote
Clear Metallic Laquer, 2 coats.
Gives a luvverly sparkly gloss finish which can be "touched up" anytime.
Survived on an air-cooled Harley across central Spain in Mid Summer, including the traffic jam around Barcelona, without lifting or flaking.

b and q blackboard paint suprizingly heat resistant and means it matches the rest of the bike (mine anyway)...

Thanks Guys
and B&Q & Halfords are next to each other in Grimsby so I'll be shopping there over the next couple of days.
The etch primer sounds good as flaking is a usual problem for me
