Bike electrics and oily bits I can get by on,but these alarm imobiliser gizmos just throw my bonce into meltdown.
Mate has an early R1,he laid it up over the winter. When he dug it out turns out the batteries on both his alarm keyfobs had run down, thereby not allowing him to reset his imobiliser.(factory fitted alarm).
He replaced the batteries, bike still would'nt let him start it.He checked the owners manual, the one that comes with the bike written in Spanglish,it says take the keyfob and the security swipe card to his dealers and they'd sort him out.
He has the security card and obviously the keyfobs, but does anyone out there know what the dealer does to make the keyfobs work?,is there a way to reset the fobs without getting ripped off by Glasgows only official Yamaha toerag?.
He is able to start and use the bike, included in the manuals instructions is a semi-pagan fertillity dance involving flashing lights and pissing on virgins (nae easy task in Glasgow, finding one of them fuckers I can tell ye).
If there is no way to reset these things on your own,has anybody any idea how much the dealer would charge for this service?,I've told the mate they should'nt charge him more than half an hours labour, but I've never used a dealer so don't know.
Cheers in advance.

ring the Dealer up and ask em woulld be the first thing i'd do

depends on make an model of alarm which yer seem to have forgot :D

Certain Models have to be re-set if the Batteries die as the Chipset wn't accept a New Signal after the Battery has died as the Memory Dies with it so the Reciever on the Bike doesn't Reconise the FOB

failing that just rip the cunt out i fucking hate Alarms i'm sick of going out to alarm Faults when Doing Recoverys

if it's a Datatool with only 2 buttons on the Fob there is a re-set Sequence yer can try just depends on model

Don't know which model alarm it is,but the way the mate describes it there's a light on the instrument consol that flashes codes at him,so I'm assuming it's one of Yamahas own alarms.
Don't know how deeply embedded the alarm is in the bikes electrics, and doubt the mate has the fitting instructions,so I'd be reluctant to start ripping it out.

ok R1 is one of them shiny things that hurtle past in posh leathers , yeah?

My only experience was a car alarm that thoghtfully shut engine down.Turned out batt was flat in fob threw wobbler-sounds kinda familiar so far.

Took fob to local tow bar/alarm fitter who had a gizmo that recorded the infra red thing(light?).Swopped batt .Pointed at said thing and it recalibrated it.

Can't believe yam track r1's have immobilisers.!!

Don't think he'll be alone.May be worth a nose here
