First check Fuel Flow to tank to carb.

Assuming you have CV carbs, check the diaphragms for pinholes.

raise the needles a notch or two?

this is often a sign of being lean - esp if u r not runnign an airbox...

check float level.

is it running smooth on all 4 at tickover? check by putting a dab of oil / wd40 on each exhaust header, start - do they all smoke at the same time (ie get hot at the same speed = runnign evenly)

checked diaphragms all ok
checked float level ok
checked fuel going into carbs ok
Am not using air box
engine has a slight miss on tickover and some times has backfired
not sure by what you mean by raising the needle set the air mixture by turning the screw 2 turns out

I'd be very interested to see how you get on here because I'm having exactly the same problem with my LS650. Runs ok on tickover but splutters/missis/goes out to lunch when the throttle is cracked open. Happened about 5 mins into a ride on Christmas eve in the rain. So far I've replaced the fuel, cleaned the carb and jets out (including checking the diaphram), cleaned the fuel tap, checked the coil and pulse generator, put a new plug in, checked the valves, wiggled all the wires, checked all the relevant connectors and severely pissed off the neighbours. I'm waiting for my ingitor box to come back from testing (£35) and if thats ok I'm stumped.

QUESTIONS, are you running any type of airfilter
when you say you have cleaned the carbs ,what do you call
clean ,this might sound a daft question but you do not seem
to know what the air screws are and they are an important part
ignore the reply about raising the needles as this does not apply
to Your type of carbs (others it does)
Sometimes these carbs need an air filter of some sort to restrict
the air flow through the carbs

If you dont have the airbox on you will need to rejet the carbs, I had a gs that would idle OK, but would stall as soon as it was put into gear (clutch still in) because it was running so lean. I had to uprate the main jets by 50% for it to be ok with K&Ns (95s to 145s)

No I am not using any air box,
I completly stripped carbs and jets blew out with compressed air and reassembled, must addmit it was the first time that I have attempted to work on carbs.Thought that I did a good job.If you do suspect that it is because I have no air box is it possible to make a tempary unit just to prove that is the problem.I have just finished stripping and cleaning the carbs again, idle jets, main jets, pilot, every thing ok. still have same problem

if you have no airbox on you should be able to manually lift the slides with a screwdriver....a bit basic but if the bugger revs it would seem the diaphragms are at fault

If you are sucking extra air from any manifolds or unfastened jubilee clips then you will have probs when you try to rev it.

Had this prob on my 700 magnum trike
