Not sure if this is the right section for this question but does anyone know where I can get a copy of the form to tell customs & excise I want to run my car on veg. oil :D please?
I've looked on HMRC website, couldn't find it so e-mailed them but got no reply...
I've read on the 'net you can use 2,500 litres of the stuff per year before you're liable to pay duty (not sure I believe this though) but if you don't want to get your car confiscated if the tank gets dipped you have to register using this elusive form. Cheers guys

i thought they had changed the law regaring veg oil use as a fuel for motor vehicles. my understanding was that you could use upto 2500 litres per year without having to fill in any delclaration or forms. this was done because the system was costing more to administer, than it made in tax revenue due to small monetary amounts being payed by a lot of people but a lot of time taken up checking forms and payments.
might be wrong though!!

Johnr's spot on. You can now get processing kits (have a look on the Guardian's website as there was a bloke in there last week who processes the stuff himself) to keep you under the 2500 ltr limit.

Chip fat works out at about 35p per litre. (45p when processed) - diesel bikes anyone? :D

The forms on the bio-power site all seem to be about producing fuel from waste oil rather than just buying cooking oil and putting it straight in the tank - or have I missed that bit

That's how it works... cheaper to do that, than to go out and get a small bottle of chip oil from the supermarket.

Cheers for all the replies guys, theres the potential for some worthwhile savings here.
So lets see if I've got this right - if I make less than 2500 litres per year of my own biodiesel from old chip oil (cheap) or new cooking oil (possibly not cost-effective) I don't have to tell HMRC or register or pay fuel duty but I do need to keep a record of how much I've made and when I made it and I'm nice and legal.
If I put new cooking oil straight into the tank then thats illegal? (Its the most attractive option to me because at 80p/litre from Tesco - or even cheaper at a cash'n'carry - and using 15-20 litres a week at 50/50 oil/diesel saves at least £300-400 a year for no work)
Presumably if I'm stopped and get my tank dipped they can tell the difference between straight diesel, 50/50 diesel/homemade biodiesel and 50/50 diesel/new cooking oil?

I used to run my old Escort van on a veggie oil & diesel mix. When I started doing this 6 months veggie oil was 50p a lite, it's now approx £1.10.
No point doing it any longer.

No reason legally why you can't put straight veg oil in tank.

You can "produce" 2500 litres a year just by keeping simple records.

This CAN be new veg oil from the supermarket. Your wife/girlfriend can also produce 2500 litres to use in the same car, so can each of your kids if you have any.

There are 3 of us in our household so we can between us put 7500 litres of veg oil in the car we jointly have use of

yep have stopped putting veg oil in tank as over £1 a litre now, with no receipt.
At least i get a claimable receipt for £1.24 from the garage.
