That's true mate, my old man said it was suicidal to put knobblies on a road bike...

Was interesting to say the least when we put a set of knobblies from an R1150GS on a GS850...

Not a good experience I take it?

I've been running knobblies on road bikes for years, mate, they're fine. Drop the tyre pressures a little (20-25psi) and they're good. :)

I use Metzeler Sahara 140s front and rear.

Actually wasn't too bad once you got up to over 30mph and your eyeballs stopped shaking (yes,really-I was seeing 5 roads ahead at one point) but handling on bends was rather suspect. Braking wasn't easy.We had to tow the bike out of the hole my mate dug doing a burnout on his lawn :D

They weren't on/off road tyres like Saharas though-these were full on barely legal for road use knobblies a bit like you'd find on a crosser.

I had some on a chopped Xj i had.
Found they slid a bit but you knew when and how much so it could be fun.:D
Couldn't wear the buggers out though,in the end i gave up and took them off.
In fact one half of the front tyre still resides around the dartboard at my local.
