View Full Version : Rusty brake discs

Me Bandit's been standing for a few weeks and, as they do, the front discs have got a fair bit of surface rust on them.
Now usually I'd just take it out for a good thrap to clean it off but the MoT's just run out, and as the place I get it tested is only about 2 minutes away it won't scrub off on the way there.
Will it do any harm to use one of those green pan-scrubby things (Scotchbrite or summat is it?) on 'em?

Should be fine, just don't use anythig that leaves oily residue like soap. The rolling road test should have them sorted anyways.;)

Thanks, I'll use a new 'un so it's not got washing-up liquid and stuff in it.

Just go the long way round :D
I'd love to, but knowing my luck (and our wonderful Derbyshire traffic oinkers) I'd probably get done for not going the most direct route on a bike with no MoT :D

Book it in somewhere further away then?
I took mine to Mansfield from Leeds!

Don't have time to do that; sorted though with the Scotchbrite :D

You guys are lucky, I've a 50 odd mile round trip with no petrol stations since the mot center stopped selling:( still gives the bike a good workout, I've only blown 2 bikes up before ever getting to the mot:thumbsu: If they were that bad at least I saved the cost of mot and tax:thumbsu:

I could be talking shite, but I thought if you're on your way to an MOT test (do be on your way though, no matter which route you take ;)) I thought you're OK?
Also if you are 'testing' your bike prior to an MOT? (maybe have a very small adjustable spanner on you to make 'necessary adjustments')
COuld be wrong though

You're right Pat, but as Shifty says:

The pigs would not be impressed if you took your bike to be MOTed in the Scotland via Cornwall.

If there's no current MoT, you can only ride it to go to a pre-booked test, via the most direct route, because the vehicle is (in the eyes of the law) unroadworthy till it's got its ticket.

But you can choose not to take it to the nearest test centre....
