Yes i know you don,t often see cx500 and speed in the same sentence.
But i am trying to work out the gearing for me trike , so i need the standard top speed figure to work out what i am doing with tyre sizes etc.
Thanx

couldn't agree more - i had the custom one in teh 80s' that i used for despatching - great machine - if i hadn't of fallen in love with the honda SOHC's fours - theres a very good chance i would have chopped one fully and still be riding it...

dont matter m8 as long as you mention the condition.

ive seen tatty manuals go for between £5.00 £10.00 - u just gotta hope there are more than 1 person after them.

if yo dont wanna up them send em over and ill up em for ya and forward the beer tokens on minus ebay fees

don't try and work out what tyres you need by basing it on the bikes top speed.
you could well be way off.
a trike has more drag than a bike, it's heavier.
base it on the axles diff ratio, then aim to get a wheel/tyre combination thats results in a slightly lower ratio/higher numerical number than a standard cx, that is to allow for the above extra drag and weight.

all these factors can be easily worked out with a tape measure and a calculator ;)

Thanx for the advice folks,
I have been using a page that i found for diff ratios & tyre/wheel sizes, the rpm bit is no use coz it's for a vauxhall i think!.
Have included a address if it's of any use to someone.

Fastest CX trike I saw was built by a mate of mine (ex-Fleetwood, now Holland) - he got a CX, stuck a Mark 3 Escort axle on the back with wheels off a TVR sports car.

The gearing was much improved than on the standard bike

Funnily enough, he worked at TVR so I wonder where the wheels came from? :D

thanx mitch
I also took the none reliant axle route and was worried about the weight/power ratio on a cx trike having been given the "it will be gutless" line a couple of times. Not that i want rocket ship, just a competent trike to have fun on.
