View Full Version : leaking carbs
I have had a problem of a leaking carb when the petrol is left turned on and the engine isnt running. It is coming out of the K&N on no1 carb.
changed the float needle to no avail and now it has started coming out of no2 carb instead of the 1 that was leaking any ideas?

strip them and give them a good clean, a rebuild kit is about £48 for the 4 carbs, might be worth looking into while they are apart anyway, but sounds like a shonky valve on the float things, maybe check all the float heights??
I am great with engines, but sadly the carbs still baffle me

what bike is it?
i have some carbs which are meant to be fed by a vacuum tap play up when
a standaed tap is used.
almost as if they could'nt take the constant pressure of a non vacuum fuel flow.
its a Kwak GT750 P1 thats been triked and its had this prob since i bought it

since it is leaking out of n.o.2 carb since replacing the float needle in n.o.1 carb.
then it's a sure bet that you need to replace the float needles in the other 3 carbs
i do carb repair kits for £8.25 each but would need to know exactly which model and year

Could be dirt/rust from inside your petrol tank getting through and jamming open the float needles. I've had this before - took me yonks to suss it out. I cured it by petsealing the tank.

The float valve seat has a rubber O ring, if this is perished then petrol can leak past the outside of the seat.
To check if the tap is at fault, disconnect the feed line to the carbs and attach a length of pipe from the tap to an empty jar.The jar should be lower than the tap. Leave overnight, if there is petrol in the jar then there is a problem with the tap and it will stripping to determine the problem.
The float valves do wear, it is usually indicated by a tiny ridge and these will need replacement.
Talk to Andy at NRP on 0161 832 8646 (Manchester) for advice and service kits, he supplied me with replacement parts for my GT750 and at a fraction of Kawasaki prices.
its a Kwak GT750 P1 as i said earlier and yea is 1987 P reg
the float needle and insert cost 20.00 that i bought and didnt have rubber Orings in

i would check your float height and make sure the float is not sticking
this is a common fault on Honda SOHC's and usually a quick stripdown and cleanup cures this

The O ring fits round the float valve seat and forms a seal when the seat is pushed into the body of the carb
thats what im wondering wether thats whats gone
so dracken do you have my model in stock?
