hi, im new here, i was hoping some people may be able to give me some repair tips. I havent started my bike (GZ 125 Marauder) for over a week (due to a foot injury preventing me from riding) but when i have come to start it up this morning it wouldnt start. ive checked the spark plug and cleaned it, but it still wont start up. the engine is turning over, and the battery certainly isnt flat - but i cant seem to get the thing to kick in. any help much appreciated.
Cheers

sounds like petrol ain't getting to the carbs, check all fuel lines, is it turned on? Did you check the HT leads as well as the LT?

non starting of vehicles usually follows

fuel (sometimes there isn't any, even when you think there is)
battery (may not be fully charged, may be problem with alternator/dynamo/starter motor)
carbs (fuel turned on, fuel lines ok, carbs working, float chamber ok?)
electrical (HT LT ignition, distributer and parts, timing etc)

after that you need a professional to look at it!

happy to help

ensure the plug is sparking.
if fitted with a vacuum fuel tap turn it to prime.

if no joy follow dora's list above
good luck

ive had to get a new spark plug, and it looks like where it fits in needs to be re-threaded now as well - BUGGER. still, i know where i can get that done cheap. still, cheers for the welcome. :)

If it's been stod for a while, charge the battery.

It may be spinning over, but it's possible that the starter is drawing so much current the isn't enough left over to give you a decent spark.

And it's basically free.

best way to check spark, undo it and place it near the engine (don't hold it tho) and start engine, see if spark is big and blue, if it's too big or too small or too yellow then you have distributer probs or lead probs, hey if you lived near us I'd come and show you, will post my very own design flow chart for engine starting probs on here very soon, erm, gypsy, can you transpose it into a web page thingy please?? lmao

ive had it fixed, and ive bin riding it round today :D it's had a new spark plug fitted, and a general service. so now it is completely roadworthy - and for a 125 it doesnt sound bad at all :D - shame about the unsightly exhaust tho'...

but thanks for the advice - i will refer to it in the future.
