View Full Version : Pro' Custom 2004
After the massive build up for this show, was anyone else as surprised at the lack of people attending as I was?. I felt really sorry for the people that had worked so hard to set up their pitches and were rewarded with what seemed to me like total apathy. There was something good about the lack of visitors... I managed to get plenty of photo's of the bikes without some grubby little child or mindless myopic getting between me and the bike just as I pressed the button. I have to say though, I thought Vic Jeffords "Saracen" looked well in the magzines. But even I was dumbstruck when I got to see it in the 'flesh'!. WOW!!!. Hats off to you young sir!. A veritable peach. Right then I can hear a bar of dairy milk choccy calling. Ta ta y'all.

I also think it was a bit miss leading from an exibitors point of view.....the original price of me site was £1140 + the dreaded, and when i said I'd love to do it, but it was way out of my price range, i was offered another site at £470 all in, I was also given a site plan that showed sites for around another 30 exibitors....If i knew it was only going to be me,the ps2 a couple burgervans and a deserted Honda stand, I wouldnt have bothered my arris going....I also think its out rageous that you had to pay stupid money just to get your name on the pcb web site, and even more outrageos that Beej after the event asked for a list of the exibitors who attended, and was told that hes wasnt allowed that as it was against exibition rules.....a bloody disgrace. The weather was fowl, but that wasnt john/helen or annitas fault, but charging £10 for a day event, that wasnt pulling in the crowds was a bit lame too, with people leaving in their droves around 4 pm on the sunday, and stragglers still being charged £10 at the door, when even the exibitors were packing up and leaving was also poor planning on their behalf.
the bikes that did exibit were the best the country had to offer though, and i'm thoroughly glad i got to see them.
another thing, the hotel i was staying in knew nothing about the show, as the tourist info board didnt know the show was on, locally they had a few signs for the event, but not as many signs as the sunday boot sale or the monday market. When we turned up on the thursday there was a sign saying the boot sale and the market were canceled, but lo and behold the boot sale was on, a bugger really as i could have up rooted, and gone across there and possibly have made my fuel home.
also when we turned up to setup on the sunday, there were no signs saying not to use exit 12, so my self and 2 other exibitors had to reverse 500 meters through solid car boot traffic and pedestrians
If anyone is wanting to exibit there next year, please email me, as im going to advertise this gig, and make a free website with video clips of this years, and a free list of exibitors for next year, with links to their sites and their work, so at least the public will know whos who and whats what, with out an exibitor having to pay silly money just to have their names on a pxoy web site, that you couldnt find unless you knew in advance that it existed....
thanks for the warm smile pat

Hi Russ,
It was a bit dissapointing I must admit. I didn't have to fork out as much as Pennywise as my bro lives in Doncaster (with the R1 Sibling, he's usually at Sherburn with it) but I was surprised at the lack of numbers. I was told there were close to 3000 on the Saturday?
I'm origianlly from donny so it was a big weekend for me. I used to dream of painting bikes when i was a nipper and then I had a stand at the show so to be honest, i was really chuffed to bits! And then to see me and Pennywise both on men & Motors!! Well, that was a scream!
Got my face about a bit, got Organic Image mentioned and managed to show off some of my airbrush work so all in all, I was really pleased. I think to be fair this is a first for them so, I'm guessing it'll just get bigger like all the good shows do, even Rock & Blues 21 years ago must have been little!
But I'm with pennywise ion the advertising thing, it was a disgrace to ask for ****loads of dosh to be put on a website that surely should have been there to benefit the show and everyobe else too, I could have advertised it better on-line! Nobody I spoke too (and my bro lives in Donny remember) knew anything about the show at all and I think it's wrong for them to assume that it would just be a 'Pro' Custom Bike crowd (dealers builders mainly) because the bread and butter surely would have come from the public.
Lets help it get bigger next time, I'd be happy to get 100% behind it and I'm already loking forward to next year.

Icannot comment on the website ads thing as I know nothing about it, but as far as the show went I think it was a great first effort. First shows are always quiet, and around 6,000 through the doors is not bad! We sold out of everything I took (apart from a few back issues) by around 11.30am on Sunday! The quality of bikes on show was superb! The organisers were brilliant, couldnt do enough for exhibitors, where else do you get a FREE party with band etc on friday nights? Or a free mini bus to and from the venue/ Give them a chance eh? No things were not perfect, but as long as they learn from this year, it will be a great show! It is going to expand next year, upstairs will be open and filled with stands too, all comments and problems are being discussed and taken on board.
ODIE! Your comment was deleted cos it wasnt relevant or ACTUALLY CORRECT! The person you were complaining about has NOTHING to do with this show .... I repeat... NOTHING! Thats why your comment was deleted, I didnt want it misleading folk !
