Took my trike for the MVSA test on wednesday and it failed on the exhaust.
The limit for my exhaust was 99 decibels at 6300 rpm, mines was 105.4 decibels. I tried to cheat and hold the revs at 5000 but he caught me so I had to up them (worth a try).I alread have a set of baffles from my original bike exhausts tacked into the pipes approx. 20"" from the end of each pipe, plus the pathetic excuse for baffles in the end cans that i bought, plus a set of 8" long bolt in baffles that i have fitted into the end cans.HOW CAN I MAKE THEM QUIETER? would shoving a load of steel wool in the end cans help as it only has to do me for the test as i'll be taking all but one set of the baffles out anyway
PLEASE HELP!

So near and yet so far

Cheers
Teasy

completely block one silencer - worked well on a mates gsxr streetfighter (assuming that you have a 4-1-2 system..)

if not - shove the steel wool in - but it wont last very long (like 10 mins...)

go to a small engineering shop with a lathe, and rummage in the skip for 'swarf' in long spirals - like a rough wire wool - might last longer....

if you can take the silencer apart put a blanking plate in there to completly block the silencer then drill a load of 5mm holes in the plate that should quieten it down when the test is done pull the plate out.

Well I stuffed the tail pipes with fibreglass fire blanket until I could squeeze the baffles back in and no more. This reduced the noise from 105.4 to 91 decibels and it PASSED!!

Thanks for the advice.

The trikes now stripped for powder coating but unfortunately theres no one to coat it as theyve all shut for the trades fortnight.I'm sure I'm destined never to get this bloody thing on the road!
If anyone knows of a place that could do it in the central scotland area please let me know.
