I have scrounged two 9kg dry powder fire extinguishers, thinking they might make nice petrol tanks for the couple of trikes I am building.
I phoned the local fire safety officer to see if there was anything nasty inside, and he reckoned there is a liner inside to stop the power getting wet.
Thing is I have seen bikes using them as tanks in the custom mags, but are they only the water type ones?

Hey there,
a few years ago when i used to do banger racing,we used fire extinguishers as our petrol tanks, all my mate did when welding the tanks up was pour a little petrol inside and set fire to it so it melted the platic coating.we never had no trouble with using them!just a idea :)

Sounds good.
I will just have to watch which direction the bottle is pointed when I set light to it.

I got this back after emailing the company who made the things.

Dear Mr. SMITH

We strongly suggest YOU DO NOT USE a 9kg.powder cylinder for petrol storage!!!

Nice of them to worry about me!

Cheers.Doug

Dont listen to them!!!
fire extinguishers make bloody good fuel tanks, when we raced they used to get well battered and never leaked, split etc etc

i always used to use co2 pub gas cylinders in my racing days....., but here is nothing flamible in an extiguster, so where is the problems with setting light to the lining?

Probably don't want to be sued if they so go bang, ect.
I have just been given a smaller one which would make a nice oil tank. I will get back to you after some experiments.
