As i am disabled i sold my bike and am now in the middle of building a trike, actually two trikes. The first one will be completed hopefully within the next two weeks. So i'm looking for the easiest way to get this resgistered so i can get it on the road. The trike is an 1100 goldwing and i have kept the fremae, engine and all the bits and just put on a robin relient back axle. Can you help? Thank you.

Thats just baffled me, how can you ride to an MOT but it has to be tax'd first ? You cant tax it without an MOT can you? Or have I completely read this wrong (knowing me, I probably have)
when i registered mine last august i had to get the MOT and weight certificate first and only when it was registered at the DVLA office was it then issued with a tax disc
it has to be insured to be legally allowed to ride it to from MOT and Weigh Bridge the tax comes later
then if the trike is a one off and needs a chassis number the man from the ministry will come out and issue you with a certificate
so basically when you go to register it, we had to show the following documents
1, MOT
2, Insurance
3, Weight Certificate
4, and the Chassis number certificate (if applicable)
the reason i asked about the weight was that if it is under weight (450 kilos or less..i think that is the right weight, so double check first) then you needent go through MSVA or obtain exemption from MSVA (For disabled use)
one point i am unsure of is the extent of adaptions needed to exempt it from MSVA.

a vehicle DOES NOT have to be taxed to drive it to an aproved MOT station so long as a valid test apointment has been made and the vehicle details have been given to the MOT station (either the vehicle reg or the chassis No if it does not have a reg No).
However the law won`t apreciate you stopping off a sainsburys or a local rally on your way home after a test, as the apointment system is only designed for you to go to the test there and back, ideally by the shortest route

A tricycle has become a vehicle less than 4 mtrs long, 2 mtr's wide, 2,5 mtr's high and weighing under a tonne.
If it is for diabled use it does not require an MSVA and to save time you can make up your own chassis/VIN number.
You'll need to fill in forms V55/5 and V627/1 available from your local DVLA office (find in yellow pages under 'Drivers') send them back to the DVLA and nature will take it's course
Meantime.... Get it MoT'd & insured on the VIN no. An inspector will call (or you might have to take it to them). You do not require a number plate to ride to the MoT or other inspection although you may wish to write the VIN no. where the plate should be. (Up to you)
Currently you will not have to prove that it is for disabled use...
